Pre-treatment of Aluminium
All cold rolled strip is chemically pre-treated to ensure outstanding paint adhesion and enhance corrosion resistance. The chemical conversion coating is in accordance with ASTM B449. "Standard Recommendation Practice for Chromate Treatment of Aluminium."
Paint Finish
The chemically pre-treated aluminium strip is covered with a decorative enamel , suitable for interior application. The resultant tough, smooth and uniform, "long-life" paint finish is achieved by constantly monitored curing conditions and strict quality control. The method of application ensures that all exposed surfaces, including edges are covered and only carefully selected coating materials are used. The paints are controlled according to ECCA test methods and specifications.
Film Thickness
Avg thickness of normal paint film = 14 micron each side
Avg thickness of metallic coating = 14 micron each side
The thickness of special coatings and non-standard colours may deviate slightly from these values. Test method - by means of eddy-current measuring apparatus in accordance with ECCA Test Method T1.
Light Fastness
Applied coatings have a light fastness of at least 6, according to the International Wool Scale with no excessive chalking or peeling of the paint film. Test Method - 1000 hours radiation in Xenotest apparatus.
Specular Gloss
Depending on colours, "gloss" about 80% and "semi-gloss" (matt) about 38%.
Test Method - Photometrically by Gardner glossmeter with 60?60?geometry, ECCA Test Method T2.
Film Adhesive
No removal of film occur when test as follows:
Test method - using a sharp knife or similar instrument, make 10 parallel cuts through the film at about 1/16 inch spacing. Make 10 similar cuts at 90?and crossing the first 10. Apply No 600, 3/4 inch wide, Scotch cellophane tape firmly to the area and pull off sharply.
Paint Film Hardness
Paint film for VB strip has a pencil hardness of at least H. Test Method - According ECCA Test Method T4.
Humidity Resistance -Water Emersion
No formation of blisters to an extent grater than illustrated for Few Blisters of No 8 size in Figure 4 of ASTM standard Method D714 when tested as follows:
Test Method - 300 hours in accordance with ASTM test method B117 using 5% Sodium Chloride solution. Film scored diagonally sufficiently deep to expose base metal, and edges exposed. The appearance of small isolated blisters (F8 maximum corresponding to ASTM D714) is permitted.
Limitation
This specification is valid for Venetian Blind Strip in standard uni and metallic colours with the above specified film thickness. Excluded are all transparent colours and laminates.
