Measuring Instructions: Roller Blinds For Edwardian (Square) Conservatories

These can be used for:

Roller blinds

Electric roller blinds

Cordless roller blinds

Tips

Use a metal tape measure to ensure accurate measurements.

The fabric on roller blinds is 35mm narrower than the full bracket to bracket size meaning that on a bay window where two blinds are fitted next to each other the gap will be approximately 40mm. This may prevent all the glass being covered.

2 Options For Fitting Roller Blinds On Square Conservatories

With square conservatories you need to decide how the blinds are going to meet at the right angle corners and then make the relevant allowances so they fit in comfortably. Browse the illustrations below to choose and option best for you. Roller blinds fitted next to each other or at an angle will have a gap between them to allow for the fittings.

Option 1: The most common method of installation

This method is designed to ensure that the front blind is fitted close to the side window with the side blinds butting up against the front blind.

Option 2: The most tricky method of installation

For the confident measurer, this gives a more professional fit as the blinds meet in the corner but is dependant on a minimum frame size of 70mm. Measure from the corner to the glass, if the frame is less than 70mm then go for option 1 or 3 to avoid the blinds not covering the glass properly

Bracket Allowance

Roller blind brackets in conservatorieds are face fixed i.e. the brackets are screwed facewards into the window frame.

The size of cordless roller blind brackets are different depending on the size of the blind.

Use the information below to determine the bracket allowance.

Bracket allowance for blinds up to 2000mm wide x 2500mm drop: X = 65mm
Bracket allowance for blinds up to 2500mm wide x 2700mm drop: X = 71mm

Note down the X value for the next step.

Bracket Allowance = X

Side Windows

Option 1: The most common method of installation

1) Starting on the left hand side of the conservatory decide how many blinds you require to fill that side.

e.g. if there are 3 window panes you can either fit 3 seperate blinds or 1 large blind. For the blind nearest the front of the conservatory measure to the front window frame then subtract X from the previous page.

Left hand side: 2100mm / 3 windows = 700mm each.
Blind 1 (left of the 3 )= 700mm
Blind 2 (middle of the 3)= 700mm
Blind 4 (right of the 3)=700mm - X (65mm) = 635mm

2) Measure the front window adjacent to the left hand side. The width will be from the frame in the corner to the connecting frame to the door. If you have more than one window and you choose to have more than one blind then meadure to each connecting from between each window in addition.

3) Repeat the same process for all sides of the conservatory.

Drop

1) Windows: Measure the full drop of the window from where the brackets are mounted to where the fabric should finish.

2) Doors: Measure from where the brackets are to be fitted to the where the fabric should finish near the floor.

Order as RECESS SIZE.

Option 2: The most tricky method of installation

1) Starting on the left hand side of the conservatory decide how many blinds you require to fill that side.

e.g. if there are 3 window panes you can either fit 3 seperate blinds or 1 large blind. For the blind nearest the front of the conservatory measure to the front window frame then subtract X (from the previous page)

Left hand side: 2100mm / 3 windows = 700mm each.
Blind 1 (left of the 3 )= 700mm
Blind 2 (middle of the 3)= 700mm
Blind 3 (right of the 3)=700mm - X (65mm) = 635mm

2) Measure the front window adjacent to the left hand side. The width will be from the frame in the corner to the connecting frame to the door or the next window frame depending on how many blinds you are having.

For the blind adjacent to the last left hand window deduct subtract X (from the previous page)

Front blind 1 = 850mm - X (65mm) = 785mm

3) Repeat the same process for all sides of the conservatory.

Drop

1) Windows: Measure the full drop of the window from where the brackets are mounted to where the fabric should finish.

Order as RECESS SIZE.

Window Handles

If your window has any handles that protrude out affecting the blinds then please order them as reverse roll.

The fabric will then fall over the front of the tube, missing the handles. See images.

Doors

The fitting of roller blinds on conservatory doors can be done in 2 places depending on available bracket space an personal choice.

Option 1 - Fitting blinds onto the outer door frame

This is generally along the same frame as where the blinds for the windows will be fitted, meaning they will not be affected by the doors. Choosing between 1 or 2 blinds gives different light control options.

Width

Measure the required width the fabric needs to be ensuring that it sits inside the handle, making sure it isnt touching it.

Bear in mind as in the illustration the bracket to bracket width of the blind will be approximately 35mm wider than the fabric, so ensure there is enough fitting space for the brackets.

Drop

Measure up to 2 inches below the glass to ensure its covered.

Order as FABRIC SIZE.

The overall width of the roller blind including brackets is approximately 35mm wider than the fabric.
